Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the SithFor those that grew up with Star Wars, you will not be disappointed. Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith is Lucas’ redemption for all the sappy love scenes, pod races and Jar-Jars that have plagued the glorious franchise he started back in 1977. Few movies ever match, not to mention exceed, your expectations going in; but this movie will blow you away! I guarantee it.

There are a few people out there that haven’t really jumped on the Star Wars bandwagon all this time, so I’ll go through a very brief synopsis of what Star Wars Episode III is all about. For all you sci-fi haters out there, the name alone will probably scare you away. I can understand. I’m not in the least attracted to titles like Andromeda or Stargate SG-1 either. Believe it or not, the title doesn’t dictate anything about how this movie really plays out. It is as sci-fi as you can get but the story is much more rich and full of more recognizable values. Revenge of the Sith takes you into the mind of a young man who has been trained like a samurai monk by a group called the Jedi. They practice strict morals that a person who has lived a life of freedom would rebel against. This is the case for Anakin Skywalker, played by Hayden Christensen. His teacher and friend Obi-Won Kenobi, again played by the talented Ewan McGregor, tries to guide him away from the Darkside of the field of energy called the Force, which is this imaginary world’s way of life. Nonetheless, Skywalker has slowly been drifting away from his teachings by his love for his new secret wife Padme (Natalie Portman) and his befriending of a powerful politician named Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). Little does he know, he is just a pawn to change the galaxy for the worse and bring down the way of the Jedi.

George Lucas, the conductor helming the Star Wars Universe, which includes now 6 motion pictures, several TV series, books, toys, and a gaggle of merchandising, has created his pinnacle achievement. This film will be remembered as well as his holy original trilogy. What most non-addict fans of Star Wars don’t know, is that Lucas only directed the first Star Wars movie in 1977. He was too busy writing scripts, producing them, and starting his own movie empire that he couldn’t spend the time directing the next two sequels. However, 16 years after ending his galactic movie series, George decided to complete the three prequels to his original series the way he always wanted to. Episode I and II both were released and became instant blockbusters but the movies themselves seemed lacking and quirky at points. Fans were holding on by a thread to this prequel series of the origin of Darth Vader, the villain from the first trilogy. Episode III is that emancipation of all the built anxiousness and doubt.

I personally was very psyched going in, knowing Lucas couldn’t blow it for the third time. The first two prequel movies had a lot of problems that I won’t go into now but I knew the Force was strong with this one. Amidst all the gung-ho nerds wielding plastic lightsabers trying to stay awake after hanging outside the theater for god only knows how long, I sat in patience for the open title that hasn’t changed for 28 years. The opening battle scene starting the movie off alone left me breathless. Its mixture of state of the art computer animation blows away anything they’ve attempted in the past and sets a new standard for movies of its kind in the future. If you enjoyed the epic battles from the previous movies you will be floored by just the snippets they give you here. If you are into more of the lightsaber battles like I am, the fight choreography is unmatched. Nothing in this movie is over ridiculous but it does have great comedy; that is until the movie gets gloomy with Anakin’s decline into the Darkside. For fans and normal moviegoers alike, let down you will not be. It is the full-blown origin of Darth Vader like you’ve always hoped it would be. I must warn you however; the movie does still carry over some small bits of overdramatic love goo from the second movie. You won’t want to gag as much as you did in Episode II though. The interesting conflict in the movie is that of Anakin, Obi Won and Palpatine, which explores the inter-tangling of Anakin’s mindset and why he chooses the paths he does. It’s fantastic!

I really wish I could scream out all the geeky things that have been set free from myself by finally seeing this movie but that would blow it for all of you that are patiently waiting out the crowds to view it yourself. The movie is incredible on all aspects, from the epic showdowns even to the drama of a villain being created before your eyes. I’ll end by simply stating, your hairs will stand on the back of your neck whether you are a fan or not. Go see this movie.
